Arizona Bioethics Network Launches
The Arizona Bioethics Network (ABN), which was active in the 1990s, is being “re-launched” and reconfigured as a community of practice focused on ethical issues in health care related to practice, policy and education.
If ever there was a time to gather people together to address critical issues in end-of-life care, medical futility, privacy, rationing, health disparities and a host of other contentious ethical issues, this is it.
The ABN intends to be a forum for discussing these issues, providing relevant education and training leading to more thoughtful and effective resolution, fashioning policies to facilitate ethical decision-making, and advocating for greater public involvement in, and understanding of, ethical issues in health and health care.
SLHI, which recommended resurrecting the ABN as the result of research for its Balancing Act Report on ethics in health care, is providing core support. A highly respected and experienced project director has recently been retained, and a preliminary ABN web site is now up to get things started. If you and/or others you know are interested in participating in the ABN, let us know.
