Community Capacity Building

Vitalyst continued to work on strengthening the Technical Assistance Program (TAP) along with strategies to support nonprofits and coalitions.  The highlights of FY 21 included:

  • Served 32 capacity building partners.
    • The cost of services averaged $10,000, which was up from $8,000 last fiscal year.
    • The average length of technical assistance was four months.
  • Sponsored nine TAP Talks and capacity building workshops with more than four hundred non-profit and coalition professionals participating.
  • Provided seventy-six scholarships for underserved and Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) groups.
  • Continued expansion of a team of consultants available for capacity building projects to more than 150 around the state.

The pandemic hurt the non-profit community to the tune of $91 million, according to a survey by the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits. Vitalyst boosted technical assistance support with additional COVID-19 funding to help meet the overwhelming need. In FY 21, we distributed  $53,000 more in funding than in FY 20 for this effort.

Our TAPAZ Fiscal Sponsorship platform currently has sixty-one active projects – fifty-two are full fiscal sponsorships and nine are grant specific. This fiscal year, thirteen sponsored projects were approved for full fiscal sponsorship. For more information about TAPAZ, go to TAPAZ.org
