One of the things I enjoy about my occasional forays into the college classroom is interacting with young people and listening to them express their hopes – and frustrations – about the future.

As a parent of two “millennials” myself, I am well acquainted with their desire to do something meaningful with their lives and their impatience with older adults who occupy leadership positions and are reluctant to hand over the reins to a new generation of leaders who are ready and capable of accepting responsibility for creating a better future.

They have a point. Look around and what do you see: geezers still chasing the ghost. Forever young, just like fellow geezer Bob Dylan exhorted us 40 years ago when we were smoking doobies in the park, railing against the establishment and imagining how we would magically usher in the new millennium of unbridled peace, prosperity and freedom.
