Jackson Headlines June 12 Healthy Communities Summit
“If we are what we eat, it can also be said that we are what we build.”
Dr. Richard Jackson – Pediatrician, UCLA Professor, Author and Host of a PBS Series on Designing Healthy Communities – will be the keynote speaker at Arizona Forward’s Health Communities Stewardship Summit on June 12. The morning-long event will also feature Amy Tomczyk sharing the Blue Zones’ nationwide collaborations with business, government and residents in improving health. The Sustainable Communities Collaborative’s Shannon Scutari and SLHI’s Suzanne Pfister, as well as a panel of Arizona Mayors, will report and reflect on what’s happening across Arizona today.
A true pioneer for connecting the built environment with health and wellness, Dr. Jackson spells out the need for municipalities to create communities that enhance and extend people’s lives – or face an alternative of continued economic, quality-of-life and city services challenges.
As practical catalysts of health improvement in cities as divergent as Albert Lea Minnesota and the Beach Cities region of California, Amy Tomczyk and the Blue Zones team convey concrete lessons and options for improving health and well-being that help municipalities to succeed.
