2022 Live Well Arizona Incubators

CoNest Healthy Food Forum, community leaders envision a place where everyone in the local food system can collaborate and improve access to healthy food. The Healthy Food Forum will allow deep connections to flourish across this rural county through cross-sector partnerships and continued equitable community engagement.

Favor Celestial Community Economic Development Initiative, will lead efforts to build on community organizing to preserve the Barrio. The Barrio Kroeger Lane Neighborhood includes residents whose families have lived in the same area for up to seven generations, and the area has been continuously inhabited and cultivated for over 4,000 years. The initiative seeks beautification and betterment of the neighborhood.

Foundation for the Little Colorado River, will address recreation and resiliency for the residents of Eagar and Springerville by funding and operating a community swimming pool. The closure of the community pool in the early 2000s created a gap in recreation and left residents needing a safe place to swim. The pool will allow for affordable, local recreation opportunities and enhance the rural quality of life in the community.

Greenlee County Tourism Council, will establish a water park along the San Francisco River to improve access to outdoor recreation. The “Frisco Float and Trail” project will include promoting the Clifton birding trails adjacent to the river and designing a high-profile beach park.

Regenerating Sonora, will address community health at the social level through its diverse partners, who reflect the many talents and assets in Superior. This group plans to open a community center with programs and services for community members to better support residents struggling with addiction and youth lacking social activity opportunities. In addition, this group aims to develop a community garden and story-gathering initiative to further their efforts in tackling social and cultural cohesion in the Superior community.

2021 Live Well Arizona Incubators

Cartwright School District, and their partners aim to improve safety and access to healthy food for the residents within their community. They plan to address the lack of quality food, education about nutrition, and long-term well-being to achieve a better quality of life for everyone in their community.

Cesar Chavez Foundation: Si Se Puede Neighborhood Association, strives to improve the lives of vulnerable populations through initiatives that address social determinants of health. Led by the Casa Pedro Ruiz housing site residents in the Si Se Puede Community in Phoenix, the plan is to engage new partners and community residents to address the issues identified in a recent community assessment.

Sugar Hill Community Land Trust, the Sugar Hill neighborhood is a historically disenfranchised community that continues to suffer the repercussions of racist urban planning and design. Their goal is to create and operate a regenerative, robustly multi-functional community land trust that will allow for community stewardship of community land. Sugar Hill neighborhood has a community garden, bike/pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and green infrastructure, all contributing to Sugar Hill’s vision of mitigating racial and environmental injustice.

TigerMountain Foundation, is an intergenerational, multi-ethnic, Asset Based Community Development model nonprofit with at-risk youth and adults of all ages in South Phoenix. While their primary objective has been to provide the community with affordable, local produce, they are expanding their efforts to develop a community of support for beginning and disadvantaged farmers that will give them a more powerful voice in agricultural policies in Maricopa County.

2019-2020 Live Well Arizona Incubators

Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District, is working to secure a viable future for youth and community to grow future leaders who want to remain in the Verde Valley. The children of this school district need a vision for themselves and their community despite current economic hardship and poverty.

Kore Press, Gender Diversity Community Collaborative, aims to address the issue of safe, inclusive, and equitable classrooms and learning spaces for LGBTQIA+ youth. Kore Press Institute is dedicated to social and gender justice through publishing contemporary literature, education, and innovative community collaborations that keep the concerns and experiences of the most marginalized at the center.

Menlo Park Neighborhood Association, is addressing Healthy Community Design by developing a Neighborhood Plan that will allow the community to be engaged in the envisioning, design, and execution of equitable development for all stakeholders.

Mohave County Department of Public Health, aims to increase community capacity to address mental health issues before they reach a level requiring critical response. Mental health training for individuals would provide tools and resources to identify and address the broad spectrum of social and environmental conditions that contribute to the condition in Mohave County.

Weaver Mountains Health Initiatives, is working to address the lack of access to health care services in their region. The population of this area includes families of children with special health care needs and seniors with a high frequency of health-related challenges, appointments, and issues.

2018-2019 Live Well Arizona Incubators

Coffee Pot Farms, intends to promote holistic wellness through workshops, fresh and affordable produce production, and a sustainable community-supported agriculture (CSA) program. Residents will increase their capacity to grow and enjoy nutrient-dense foods that are currently lacking in Teesto. Through its success, Coffee Pot Farms will be making the healthy choice the easy choice.

Cobre Valley Collaborative, has ambitious goals ranging from improving educational opportunities to an increased inventory of quality affordable housing and development of accessible recreation opportunities. From the beginning, the Cobre Valley Collaborative team has embraced leadership from multiple sectors such as government, small business, education, the arts, youth, and heavy industry.

South Mountain WORKS Coalition, aims to flip the script from “What is wrong with this child?” to “What happened to this child?”. Through its Incubator project, the coalition will develop concrete goals, deliverables, and an action plan to address the root causes of trauma in South Mountain Village – which has the highest rates of adverse childhood experiences in the state.

Sustainable Families, will address economic self-sufficiency in this rural community. Sustainable Families has worked for two years to bridge the gap between residents and the available resources, helping to identify which areas lack resources.

Yavapai County Food Recovery, this food recovery and mapping project will improve food access, economic opportunity, and environmental sustainability. Through a shared inventory of copious fresh food commodities, residents will increase consumption of locally grown and culturally relevant foods and capitalize on the opportunity for an expanded agricultural market, potentially addressing joblessness and inspiring creative entrepreneurship.
