Not to be missed: “Health Beyond Health Care”
300-500 Detroit professionals are redefining happy hour. Planners, community developers and bankers are discovering that cities are the new suburbs. A county is unlocking $50 million in healthcare savings among its employees. A mayor is working to focus his city’s success not on provision of basic services, but on how city services move the needle of a well-being index. These stories and much more were captured on June 18, 2014 at Health Beyond Health Care, an event from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Washington Post.
Via a series of two- to six-minute videos, you’ll gain a front row seat with some smart and experienced people. They’ve been grappling with health, health care and their own municipalities’ trials and tribulations. Luckily for us, their insights and results have been captured and are ready for you to view.
Some of these changes are being driven by Affordable Care Act provisions. Some are being spurred by demographic shifts, by the necessity of an obesity epidemic or even the bankruptcy of a major U.S. city. All of it adds up to some creative and sometimes radical new approaches to health. It is compelling as evidence that now is the right time to focus on health in the places that it is created: where we live, work, learn and play.
