The Arizona We Want
Speaking of Arizona’s legislative leaders, only 10 percent of citizens believe that elected officials represent their interests, and only 10 percent rate their performance as “very good.” That’s from a recent Gallup Poll undertaken by the Center for Arizona’s Future as part of its The Arizona We Want initiative to develop a vision and goals we all can work on together to ensure a brighter tomorrow.
So who elects (some of) these leaders? Are the state’s electoral districts and process flawed, or are the poll results reflective of a more general malaise affecting Americans as they try to stay sane and healthy in a period of economic, social and cultural upheaval? Many Arizonans are attached to their communities, as the Gallup poll indicates. They want a future with good jobs, access to basic services, and a healthy environment. They expect their leaders to proactively address pressing issues facing the state, and not just negatively react to change they don’t like.
There’s broad agreement on The Arizona We Want. It’s up to each of us to stand up now and do our part to make it a reality.
